Happy Thanksgiving! Thursday Game Picks
Green Bay at Detroit -
Predicted Score 41-13, Green Bay.
There is a big question on whether Stafford or Johnson will play. By the looks of it, Johnson is not playing. He fell hard on his already injured knee last week in the win over Cleveland. Stafford dislocated his left shoulder and likely won't play either. Neither have practiced this week and if Detroit is smart they will give their injured young players a week off.
The only worthy start for Detroit is Kevin Smith. Expect Detroit to be playing from behind most of the game and that will mean plenty of passes for Smith. I only expect one TD for Detroit and Smith should be the guy who gets it.
Brandon Pettigrew is a risky start, but assuming Culpepper starts, Pettigrew along with Smith will get allot of targets from Culpepper with the Packers secondary closing off the receivers.
Oakland Raiders Vs. Dallas Cowboys
Predicted Score - 34-6 Dallas.
Dallas is outstanding on Thanksgiving. From 2006-2008 the Cowboys offense has put up 106 points (35 per game) and given up less than 20 points. Expect the Cowboys to destroy the Raiders, particularly in the running game. Marion Barber, Felix Jones, and Tashard Choice are all worthy of starting, but Barber should be the big dog for the offense. Expect over 100 yards and 2 TDs if all goes well for the Cowboy stud. Felix Jones or Choice should get another.
On the passing front, Romo will look to reestablish his passing game with 200 yards and 2 TDs and he will use Miles Austin to get it started. Look for him to exploit Raiders man-man coverage with the speedy Austin, especially against Nnamdi Asomugha. Roy Williams will see action as well, but I don't believe he will find the end zone this week. The other TD that Romo will likely throw is to his tight end. I am expecting Jason Witten to suit up, but not play. If he doesn't that means Martellus Bennett will start and he is a force to reckon with in the passing game. At 6'5" he can catch Romo's high passes and is a serious red zone target every time they get down there.
NY Giants Vs Denver Broncos
Predicted Score 27-24 Denver.
This will be the best game on Thanksgiving and should go down to the last play. Denver is reeling after 4 straight losses and the Giants just ended their own 4-game losing streak last week with a OT win over Atlanta. Expect The Giants to come out running and control the ball. With Bradshaw out this week, Danny Ware will work with starter Brandon Jacobs to pound the ball against Denver. I have no doubt that the Giants will run the ball 30+ times in this game. On the passing front, Eli manning will throw enough to have a good impact. Look for 200 yards and 2 TDs. Steve Smith has a great match up when he's not with Champ Bailey. Start him and you should get a TD. The other TD will go to the quiet Dominic Hixon, but in reality could go anywhere. Kevin Boss is a must start and could get in the touchdown mix. Mario Manningham appeared last week after a quiet four weeks and had a great game. There is little to think he will repeat that performance, but it's hard to bench him. He is a solid #3 WR/Flex.
Denver will move the ball against the Giants. Kyle Orton looked alright last week and should be good to go this week. He will need to throw often, but success is not guaranteed. The risk with Orton is will his ankle flair up and cause passes to flutter and in the pocket sacks. Your best bet is benching him, but if you have no choice go with him. My projections at his best are 225 yards and a TD. Brandon Marshall should see plenty of targets, but I think the sleeper for Denver this week is Jabar Gaffney. He's been getting allot more attention from Orton with Marshall pulling double coverage. Knowshawn Moreno is getting better each week and if it wasn't for a stupid fumble last week, he would have had an outstanding week. Expect a big game for Moreno. 90 yards and a TD should be a lock, but 100+ yards and 2 TDs isn't crazy.
